Insul-Barrier LD

What Is Insul-Barrier LD

Insul-Barrier LD insulation is much more than just insulation; it is a low-density, semi-flexible, open-cellular plastic thermal insulation that expands to fill all cracks and cavities in any building structure and adheres to most materials. One of the greatest features of Insul-Barrier LD is its inherent low air permeance, which allows it to effectively control air movement and leakage. Insul-Barrier LD is vapour permeable and therefore does not entrap moisture.

How Does It Work

Insul-Barrier LD foam is created by mixing two liquid chemicals: polymeric isocyanate MDI component A, a proprietary resin Component B. The two components A and B are mixed in a 1 to 1 ratio and begin reacting in seconds.

Insul-Barrier LD foam is created from the controlled reaction of poly-isocyanate, polymers and fillers in the presence of various catalysts. Insul-Barrier LD cellular plastic foam contains millions of tiny air-filled cells. Upon reaction of component A isocyanate MDI and component B resin, the presence of water in component B resin reacts with the isocyanate to form carbon dioxide. Additional blowing agents are not required to create Insul-Barrier LD because the amount of carbon dioxide formed is sufficient to produce foam. There are no chlorofluorocarbons, or hydrocarbon-based blowing agents in Insul-Barrier LD, making the product environmentally and ozone friendly.

Insul-Barrier Has Been Tested

Insul-Barrier LD insulation is a proprietary formula that has been evaluated by independent laboratories. It is monitored on an ongoing basis by a third-party agency for its consistency in maintaining its quality standard.

"Insul-Barrier LD/HTS Efficiency Plus" is a sprayin-place, low-density, semi-flexible polyurethane foam that has an open cell structure. The foaming system consists of two components "Insul-Barrier LD/HTS Efficiency Plus" isocyanate and "Insul-Barrier LD/HTS Efficiency Plus" resin, which are mixed on-site by qualified Friction Fit Insulation installers with fixedratio positive displacement equipment.

Once "Insul-Barrier LD/HTS Efficiency Plus" has been expanded, the open cells contain air. The chemical reaction that occurs while the product is being installed takes place in seconds, with less than 15 minutes needed for curing. After curing, "Insul-Barrier LD/HTS Efficiency Plus" remains semi-flexible.

The final cured product is yellow in colour and shall have a density of 8.09 kg/m3. At 25.4 mm thickness, the design thermal resistance is 0.63 m2·°K/W (R3.6).
